Warwicks Retire After 30+ years in Mission
Warwicks Retire After 30+ years in Missions
Please join the Missions Committee as we say congratulations and thank you to Ken and JoAn Warwick, who have been missionaries for the past 34 year. The Warwicks officially retired at the end of October 2020. Ken and JoAn had planned to visit EFC Oroville in October to say good bye and thank us for supporting them all these years, but unfortunately, had to cancel their travel plans due to the COVID-19 virus.
Following is a short history of their journey as missionaries, the work they have accomplished and their ties with our church:
Ken and JoAn Warwick grew up in Red Bluff, attended Chico State (CSU, Chico) and moved to Paradise where they joined the Faribault Evangelical Free Church. It was during those years in the early 80’s that the Lord called Ken and JoAn to cross-cultural ministry with the Free Church. After attending Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Ken and JoAn returned to Paradise where they prepared to serve with the EFCA in Vienna, Austria in church planting and theological education by extension. It was during this time (1986) that Oroville EFC first started supporting the Warwicks.
In 1990, they had a daughter who had profound deafness and this required them to return to the states for her special educational needs. Ken became the District Missions Consultant to 80 Free churches in Northern California. He was very effective in partnering short-term ministry teams with national churches and missionaries and so the national EFCA offices asked him to come to Minnesota and continue this work on a national level. And so he and JoAn moved their family to Minnesota and our church continued to support them.
During their 25 years serving EFCA churches across the US from Minnesota, Ken served in a number of different roles following his work with short-term missions including developing technology support for EFCA’s 600+ missionaries, leading large projects for the mission, filling in as the temporary Director of Personnel for 6 yrs and finally in these last years has served as the Associate Director of Personnel for Training and Development.
As Ken was serving EFCA, JoAn was also hard at work. She taught and served in specialist roles at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf for 19 years, led a large women’s Bible study at their local Free Church and helped scan over 100 years of mission documents into the EFCA digital library.
Oroville EFC is one of just six churches who have been a part of the Warwick’s prayer and financial support team for the entire span of their ministry with the Evangelical Free Church! The Warwicks have expressed to us how rare and unusual it is for a church to have this depth of commitment and wish to encourage us to continue supporting our missionaries with this same fervor.
The Warwicks covet our prayers as they make the transition into retirement and seek the Lord’s guidance and wisdom for their next service beyond EFCA missions.
Please also join the Missions Committee as we prayerfully consider and seek new missionaries to support. Our desire is for EFC Oroville to continue to be commitment to long-term support of missionaries such as the Warwicks.
