Forging Ahead

The 2019-2020 school year has started wonderfully. God has blessed us with many wonderful families. Our Preschool is bursting at the seams (currently waiting list only) and Kindergarten-8th has 122 students!

An exciting new change occurred when the School Board stepped out in faith and approved beginning a Middle School model for grades 6th-8th. Our sixth grade homeroom teacher is Mrs. Hammonds. She also, teaches all the Sciences for Middle School. Mrs. Helenburg is homeroom teacher for 7th/8th grade. She also teaches all the Histories. Pastor Brian is teaching 7th/8th Bible and Worship Band as an elective. Then last but not least Mrs. Wagenaar has joined us in a part-time capacity teaching all the Middle School math classes. We are so blessed to move ahead with this amazing opportunity. The students and teachers are loving it.

This school term is the bi-annual trip to Washington D.C. for our 7th/8th grade students. They have been working hard raising money for their trip. This year we are going with a new company, Sonshine Tours. The trip is scheduled for April 6-10th. The class is gearing up for their final fundraisers. The HST Dinner and Silent Auction is scheduled for Oct. 25th. Soon our students will be selling tickets for this great event. If you would like to support this cause but you don’t know one of our Middle Schoolers you may donate money directly to the school stating HST 2020.

We have added some new staff members this year:

Sara Schmid - Second Grade

Mrs. Schmid graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2003, with a Bachelors of Arts Degree.  She then graduated from Alliant International University in San Diego with her California Teaching Credential and her Masters of Teaching in Education. She has also obtained a supplemental to her teaching credential in English to be qualified to teach high school English. She has 10 years experience as a classroom teacher. Her favorite verse is 2 Corinthians 5:7 “for we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Christiana Englund Stark - Fifth Grade

Mrs. Stark graduated from Simpson University in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She is an Alumni of Oroville Christian School and is excited to be starting her teaching career here. Her favorite verse is Psalm 139:13-16 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
